The Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, Inc. (CSOL®) is pleased to announce a luncheon featuring internationally-renowned watercolorist Mary Whyte and members of the Charleston Symphony at the Charleston Marriott on Lockwood Blvd on Thursday, October 17. Seating begins at 11:00 am.
Mary will share inspirational stories from the veterans whose portraits she painted, one from each of the 50 States, that comprise her new book, WE THE PEOPLE: Portraits of Veterans in America. Music by members of the Charleston Symphony will highlight the emotion of those stories, and Mary will reflect on the life lessons she learned during her 7-year creative process.
Ticket will be available beginning August 15. They are priced from $100 to $225, with various benefits available at each level. Sponsorship opportunities are available as well. Portions of each ticket are tax-deductible. Can’t attend? Consider making a donation to support the Charleston Symphony and CSOL Music Scholarships or sponsor a musician or artist to attend the event.
Tickets available August 15.
Sponsorships are available NOW.
The Where Art Our Veterans luncheon coincides with a series of events surrounding the launch of Mary’s book, copies of which will be available for sale and may be autographed at the event. The following weekend, the Charleston Symphony will feature all 50 Veterans’ portraits during the Pictures at an Exhibition Masterworks concerts on October 25 and 26 at the Charleston Gaillard Center, where Mayor John Tecklenberg will narrate Aaron Copland’s A Lincoln Portrait. The concerts are part of the grand opening of the exhibition of the 50 portraits at the City Waterfront Gallery. Attending the luncheon will truly enhance your appreciation of the performance by our exceptional Charleston Symphony led by Ken Lam, Music Director and the exhibition.
We invite you to be a part of what promises to be a moving experience by joining us for the Where Art Our Veterans luncheon. The luncheon includes a limited number of exclusive auction items and once-in-a-lifetime CSO experiences. Proceeds from the event benefit the Charleston Symphony and CSOL Music Scholarships. The Charleston Symphony and CSOL are committed to education initiatives in the Lowcountry, and your support allows the symphony to dedicate more than $350,000 and almost one-third of our musicians’ time to education and outreach initiatives that reach 20,000 students annually. In addition, the CSOL awards over $33,000 in music scholarships each year to students and professional musicians.
