The CSO is so grateful to the CSOL for our partnership for so many years that they want to share their gratitude with the entire audience at the Masterworks concerts April 10 and 11: Gershwin‘s Piano Concerto with the Pines & Fountains of Rome.
The CSO Board will be recognized on the stage, there will be a reception for the CSOL‘s major donors sponsored by The Peninsula of Charleston, and our members will be able to gather before the concert and during intermission for drinks.
If you don‘t already have tickets to one of the shows, use the code CSOL to buy one ticket and get a second free at charlestonsymphony.org/event/gershwinpiano. Invite a friend who might be a good CSOL member or CSO patron, or team up with another member to get these half-price tickets.
Let‘s celebrate all that the CSOL has done to support the Symphony for so many years and enjoy the phenomenal musicians of our Charleston Symphony Orchestra together!
One drink voucher per patron will be available at the CSO Marketing Table in the lobby and redeemable at the bar outside the hall. The special member/guest gathering place will be to the left of the entrance, near the stairs.

Music can transport a listener anywhere. Take a musical journey to the early 20th century with the Charleston Symphony inspired by American jazz and the beauty of Rome. At the height of his popularity (following the success of Rhapsody in Blue), George Gershwin tackled his most significant undertaking in the orchestral genre—his Piano Concerto. Pianist Maxim Lando, who last performed with the Charleston Symphony in 2024 to much acclaim, will return as guest pianist. A superbly talented musical leader and conductor, Ming Luke has made a name for himself, attracting worldwide audiences with performances of both symphonic and theatrical works.
To say Rome inspired the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi would be an understatement. His poetic reverence for the “Eternal City’s” fountains (written first) and trees is captured flawlessly in his Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome. Respighi was a genius at capturing place and time; both are major players in these works.

Two octets, two musical worlds! Revel in the beauty of Stravinsky’s Woodwind Octet and Schubert’s String Octet for an unparalleled chamber music experience by our core members and artist-in-residence, Grammy Award-winning cellist Zuill Bailey.
Stravinsky’s Octet was inspired by a dream he had, which is evident in this whimsical and vibrant composition for winds and brass. Schubert takes us on a journey of his own in this 6-movement long work that explores the richness and lyricism of his string Octet. Be there for this dynamic evening of chamber music that explores the bounds of music!

The Charleston Symphony Orchestra Chorus, directed by Nicholas Quardokus, will join the CSO and talented soloists for this uplifting season finale concert weekend. Haydn’s “London” Symphony and Dvorák’s Te Deum are also included in the roster of music from renowned composers.
Antonín Dvorák was no stranger to writing sacred works for orchestra. His Te Deum cantata, however, sounds more influenced by opera and Czech folk melodies than anything else. In his “Choral Fantasy,” Beethoven hinted at the famous “Ode to Joy” theme of his Ninth Symphony, which was composed 16 years later. Building on common Beethoven-beloved themes of goodwill, joy, and brotherhood, the “Choral Fantasy” was based on a poem by German writer Friedrich Schiller. It is, in large part, a creative and virtuosic solo piano piece, along with a stunning chorus-charged grand finale.
