Advocacy

Work with state legislators, state arts organizations and local officials to increase awareness of cultural organizations and arts education to secure funding each year for these entities and projects. Emphasize the economic value of the arts as well as the cultural value. Volunteer opportunities include coordinating CSOL® projects to promote arts in area schools, coordinate member trip to Arts Day in Columbia, host an arts organizations roundtable, etc.



Communications

Develop and distribute marketing and advertising materials for all projects and special events, both in print and digital formats. Volunteer opportunities include writing, proofreading, and distributing press releases, as well as photography, invitation and graphic design, creation of rack cards, marketing materials, and project booklets as needed. The biannual newsletter, Keynotes, is published by the Communications Committee. Additionally, create and manage all graphics, captions, hashtags, images, and reels for the CSOL’s Instagram and Facebook pages. The VP of Communications and Marketing is responsible for CSOL e-blasts, newsletters, website updates, and ensuring ongoing communication throughout the year for both future and past events.



Education/Scholarships

The CSOL awards college scholarships to high school seniors who plan to major in music, matching grants to help pay for private lessons during the school year for members of the Charleston Symphony Youth Orchestra, summer scholarships for young musicians in grades 4 to 11 to help pay for private lessons or music camps, and summer stipends for CSO musicians. Volunteer opportunities include serving on the Education Committee and helping with auditioning the applicants, awarding the scholarships, and helping with the year-end recital.



Merchandising

Organize, develop, and implement a marketing plan to promote CSOL products to the public. Volunteer opportunities include identifying outlet sources, supplying sources with merchandise, and selling CSOL products at various venues.



Sponsorship

Update the plan for sponsorship and revenue opportunities for the League. Volunteer opportunities include identifying and securing sponsors, writing letters of appreciation and publicizing sponsors’ names, etc. Coordinate with event sponsorship chairs and Education Committee.

Digital Support

Serve as subject matter expert to help manage, administer, and define the strategy and utilization of various digital tools used by the CSOL in its fundraising, event management, and business administration functions (i.e., Google Workspace, Neon CRM, Givesmart Events, SignUp Genius, etc.). Help develop best practices in use of these systems and evaluate future solutions and operational processes.



Volunteer

The Volunteer Committee helps the CSOL committees recruit and recognize volunteers through the quarterly Pitch In newsletter, SignUp Genius and personal contact with members and non-member volunteers.



Membership

Responsible for the recruitment and orientation of members, orchestrating New Member Orientation which includes a tour of the Gaillard and Mix and Mingle with the Musicians, coordinating the CSOL membership table at CSO concerts, hosting the Spring Membership Brunch and developing strategies for ongoing member engagement. This committee works with the Digital Support team to ensure the accuracy of member records It manages the membership renewal process and Volunteer opportunities include producing the online membership directory. All members are encouraged to recruit new members.


Audience Development

Host the Wine or Coffee with the Maestro events for CSOL members, CSO subscribers and donors which provides an insider preview of each upcoming Masterworks concert.



Housing and Transportation for Visiting Musicians

Coordinate or provide accommodations and/or transportation for out-of-town musicians on rehearsal and concert days when they are playing with the CSO.

Projects/Special Events


As an event-driven fundraising organization, volunteers are needed to Chair or Co-Chair each event and/or be part of a committee to assist with planning and coordinating the following fundraising events. Event Chairs need to establish a plan for marketing, sponsorship and/or revenue opportunities for their fundraising event and an event budget. Each committee’s responsibilities include identifying and securing sponsors for the event, coordinating ad sales and sponsor/donor recognition with the marketing team and sending acknowledgment letters.

The Rhapsody Raffle

This committee’s mission is to match the prize to the music! We will fulfill this mission by curating a Musical Excursion to Italy for Rome Chamber Music Festival. It is the role of the Chair and volunteers to imagine, procure and then sell these experiences via raffle tickets. The raffle includes Airfare Per-diem for 2 People; Premium Tickets for all 4 days of Music Festival for 2 People; Private Tours and More. We hope you will join this committee as we embark on “Raising the volume for Charleston’s Symphony!”



Golf Tournament

Assist in finding and contracting with a suitable golf course every other year, prepare a budget, obtain sponsors, assist with marketing and marketing materials, silent auction, ticket sales, register golfers, and/or volunteer the day of the event.

Symphony Island Tour of Homes

Held in November on one of Charleston’s neighboring islands, often Kiawah. Volunteer needs include a Chair and steering committee members to plan the event, prepare a budget, program ad sponsor solicitations, house captains and docents, ticket sales, program booklet, marketing support, and traffic management.



Revels

Volunteer needs include a Chair and committee to plan and implement a series of appealing social events such as parties, musical performances, activities or excursions that include members and guests. Responsibilities include planning, prepare budget, marketing, ticket sales and all event details. Summer planning is required.
