How we started...

The Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, Inc. (CSOL®) is a multi-talented group of dedicated volunteers whose purpose is to support the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. We have done this for more than 40 years through music education programs, audience development, and a number of fundraising projects.

In 1964, a small group of women known as the “Women’s Association,” began soliciting funds for the symphony.  Since 1983, when the name was changed to the CSOL, this group has grown to become a diverse membership of more than 400 men and women who have provided an incredible amount of support for the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, more than $300,000 in the most recent fiscal year!

League members share their talents and expertise by contributing thousands of hours in planning and producing a wide variety of special projects.  They include our annual “Opening Night Gala,” festive “Revels” parties, car sponsorships, plus house tours, including the League’s annual “Symphony Designer Showhouse,” and the promotion of our acclaimed cookbook, Music, Menus and Magnolias

The CSOL® actively supports music education and funding for the arts, annually awarding: $1,000 Student Scholarships to high school seniors who plan to major in music; $200 Matching Grant Awards to members of the Charleston Symphony Youth Orchestra; Summer Study Awards to talented Lowcountry music students; and Professional Scholarships available to members of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra for advanced study.

Our Arts Advocacy Committee works with state arts advocates to enhance the study of arts in our local schools, and with government officials to promote the support of fine arts throughout the state.  During the concert season, League members also serve as ushers and provide refreshments for the musicians.

WON’T YOU JOIN US?

We hope you will want to learn more about the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League and how you can become involved. Help us keep the music playing!
