ADVOCACY:
Gather information about governmental and other funding for arts activities in the Charleston community. Identify areas from which the CSO and the CSOL might benefit from these funding sources and assist the CSO and the CSOL in obtaining these funds. Identify and raise awareness of the value of the arts to the greater Charleston community. Work with the education committee to coordinate CSOL projects to promote arts in schools and arts activities for students.

AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT:
Develop and implement strategies to increase CSO series subscriptions and all other Orchestra ticket sales.

CAR SPONSORSHIP: Promote and sell sponsorships at the House Tour, DSH, CSO concerts and other events for the annual car give-away. Assist getting car to/from concerts and events, and/or setting up/taking down tables and displays.

DESIGNER SHOWHOUSE: Held in the spring for a period of one month, this project needs many volunteers to sell tickets at the door, work in the café as a cashier or server, serve as docents, assist in purchases and sales in the boutique, or serve on the Bareboards or the Preview Party Committees. (Regular Members must participate in this project with a minimum of two-days/ four shifts service.)

EDUCATION/SCHOLARSHIPS: Participate in the process of interviewing, auditioning and awarding scholarships. The CSOL awards College Scholarships to high school seniors who plan to major in music in college, Matching Grants to members of YOLow (the Youth Orchestra of the Lowcountry), Summer Study Scholarships to young musicians in the tri-county area, and to CSO musicians.

GALA:
Decorate the ballroom, handle invitations, solicit silent auction items, coordinate the sale of chances, or handle publicity. This event takes place on the opening night of the Masterworks Series and requires planning in the summer as well as fall.

HOSPITALITY/REFRESHMENTS: Assist in organizing refreshments for the General Meetings/Coffee Hours, Holiday Tea, and other events held throughout the year. This includes setting up food supplied by members and cleaning up after each event.

ISLAND HOUSE TOUR: Held on the second Saturday of November 2008 on the island of Kiawah. Locate interesting homes, serve as a docent, sell tickets, serve refreshments, help with the ad booklet, etc.

MEMBERSHIP/VOLUNTEERS: These two committees work together to inform and to involve the present membership, and to increase membership, through good communication. Volunteers are needed to assist at the CSO office as needed, to maintain membership records, to remind members of upcoming events and volunteer opportunities through telephone calls, to help organize neighborhood gatherings for members and prospective members, and to assist with the orientation of new members.

MARKETING/MERCHANDISING: Organize, develop and implement a strategic marketing plan to promote CSOL products to the public. This will include, but not be limited to, identifying outlet sources and supplying these sources with merchandise (e.g., cookbook), and the staffing, merchandising and selling of CSOL products at various venues.

PARTIES OF NOTE: Host a party of your choice where orchestra musicians are guests of honor and your guests make a donation of their own choosing to the CSOL. The party can be a dinner, luncheon, tea, or cocktail party of any size.

PUBLIC RELATIONS: Public Relations volunteers work closely with event chairs to determine the most efficient ways to market CSOL events. The Public Relations Committee writes and distributes press releases, makes arrangements for radio and television interviews, and produces printed materials such as invitations, rack cards and posters.

REVELS: Help plan/host/implement a series of unique parties to benefit the CSO. These parties are held throughout the year and summer planning is required.

USHERING: Volunteer as an usher at Regular, Youth and Small Fry Concerts. Enjoy these concerts at no cost to you!

WEBSITE: Help update and maintain the CSOL website. Database, Excel and Word skills are needed and assistance in improving your computer skills is available. Responsibilites may include coordinating with CSOL committees to obtain current information, update text and photographs, and design artwork.

All Regular members are expected to volunteer, at a minimum, in two projects during the 2008-2009 Season, one of those being two days at the 2009 Designer Showhouse. Regular / Regular Couple members must also attend at least one General Meeting/Coffee. (Social gatherings such as The Welcome Tea, Holiday Coffee, and DSH Parties do not fulfill the meeting attendance requirement.) If you cannot meet these requirements, we encourage you to participate as an Associate Member.
