Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, Inc.
The
CSOL® is a not-for-profit
organization of music lovers committed to keeping
the music playing in Charleston and the Lowcountry
by supporting the Charleston
Symphony Orchestra through education,
scholarships, audience development, and fundraising
events.
We began in 1968, when four to five women got
a small group together and started making telephone
calls soliciting financial support for the Symphony.
About 25 ladies met in each other’s homes
and began fundraising projects. They fondly
remember activities like card parties and Greek
dances, but no one can recall how much money
they raised. From these humble beginnings, we
grew into an organization of over 400 members
which raises approximately $300,000 annually
in support of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to fundraising
projects, CSOL® provides
all of the ushers for CSO concerts, coordinates
youth concerts with schools and children’s
concerts with the Children’s
Museum of the Lowcountry, advocates for
support of the Arts in South Carolina, and even
feeds the orchestra at dress rehearsals. We
award scholarships for studying music to graduating
high school seniors and are proud to be one
of the only Leagues in the United States that
gives scholarships to professional musicians
to further their music education.
