2008 Scholarship
Winners
The
Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, Inc. supports
the Charleston
Symphony Orchestra in its mission to provide
educational opportunities for the children and youth
of our community. The Education Committee
of the CSOL® provides three scholarship programs
for talented young musicians. Qualified applicants
audition and scholarships are awarded based on audition
results.
These 2008 winners performed on Sunday, May 4 at 3:00
pm at the Music Room of the historic
McBee House on the campus of the Ashley Hall School,
172 Rutledge Avenue: Audra Claire McCall, violin;
Yupeng Liu, piano; Linard Rivers McCloud, alto sax;
An Kung, piano; Seth Gaillard, violin; Lonnie Russell,
piano; Micah McLaurin, piano; and Anne Cai, violin.
College Scholarships of $2000
are available for graduating seniors who plan to major
in music or music education. In 2008, sixteen students
audtioned and the following four were awarded scholorships:

Summer
Study Scholarships of varying amounts
are awarded to students who are attending summer
music camps and for summer private lessons.

In 2008, thirty-one students auditioned and
the following sixteen were awarded scholarships
totaling $11,150:

Matching
Grant Scholarships of $400 for private study
are awarded to members of the Youth Orchestra of the
Lowcountry. This year twelve students auditioned and
the following five were awarded grants:

- David Zhang, piano, Academic Magnet High School
- Daniel Anthony, violin, Charleston County School
of the Arts
- Matthew Kwon, cello, Academic Magnet High School
- Katie Long, bassoon, Wando High School
